SEO packages are something that you might see offered by some specialist web companies, and whilst they are something that can be useful for some businesses, it’s not something that we’d suggest is the best option for increasing visibility in search results, increasing traffic or increasing revenue.
Here’s everything you need to know about SEO packages so you can decide if they’re suitable for you and your business.
What is an SEO package?
SEO packages are typically monthly subscription services taken out by an individual or a company, they will pay a set amount each month to a search engine optimisation company for them to carry out a set list of tasks in a bid to improve their organic rankings on Google and other search engines.
How much are SEO packages?
SEO packages can vary greatly depending on the type of package you choose and the company you go for. If you choose a highly specialist company that has worked with top brands and have proven results of their work they’re likely to charge more than a startup company that is looking to build their client base.
SEO service packages will often be labelled into categories too, you might be looking to target local SEO, such as if you’re a tradesman or you might be looking for national SEO, depending on your target market you may be charged more or less.
Typically you’re looking at spending at least £500 a month on SEO package deals, but what you get for this amount will vary from company to company.
Cheap SEO packages are likely to result in work being carried out by inexperienced people. These types of packages will likely be focused on gaining short term results that help to keep you on as a paying customer, but the long-term may be faltering and cause more damage than good.
What do you get with an SEO package?
SEO packages come in all sizes and shapes, with different companies offering seemingly different packages. Some may present their packages in different bands such as basic or advanced, they may label them as bronze silver or gold, or they may even split them into local SEO packages, national SEO packages and SEO audit packages.
Each of the packages will usually explain what they offer within them, with a focus on keyword research, Google analytics set up and configuration, link building, on-site optimisation, and other things.
Any SEO package that you look to take out should include at least the following:
- Keyword research
- A focus on regional and local areas
- Backlink review
- Analysis of KPIS
- In depth look at web copy
- Backlink building
If you’re willing to pay more, then you can choose SEO packages that offer more services and in-depth analysis.
The benefits of an SEO package
There are some benefits to purchasing an SEO package, such as they can be much more cost-friendly. If you haven’t budgeted for this within your marketing budget a cheap SEO package could be a better option to get some quick results.
SEO can be free, there are things that can be learnt by yourself to help improve your website. However, the rules constantly change and what you might be reading online may very well already be out of date. So it’s important that you follow the rules abhorrently so you don’t cause detrimental damage to your website and search results.
The downsides of SEO packages
Whilst some companies might see benefits from affordable SEO packages, it’s not something that we would highly recommend. SEO is a bespoke thing, it requires an indepth analysis of your website before work should begin to ensure that you don’t do more harm that good with the changes you are making.
SEO should be unique to each individual business and the aspirations and needs. One business may need to compete with other established competitors to rank higher than them, whilst another business may need to target a local specific industry, such as driving lessons.
Other downsides to SEO packages that you need to be aware of, include:
Results aren’t instant: SEO won’t make a difference overnight, and any package that claims to do this should be avoided completely. You need to show patience when it comes to SEO. Search engine ranking can sometimes take weeks to come into effect.
Rankings can be lost: Algorithm changes can sometimes result in a loss in position rankings. When this happens you want someone to be able to determine what caused the loss in rankings and make any necessary adjustments to help get them back on track.
SEO package mistakes
If you’re still considering purchasing one of these SEO services packages, there are some common mistakes that you won’t to avoid. These pitfalls are often associated with cheap SEO and it’s vital your business doesn’t fall for them.
- Purchasing backlinks, Google will not tolerate this, so if you see this as part of an SEO package you want to avoid this.
- Choosing an inexperienced agency, you want those you’re putting in charge of your SEO to be able to show you the results they’ve garnered for other clients.
- Buying an SEO package that is outdated and uses old SEO practices that aren’t likely to make much of a difference to your website or could cause more damage than good.
- Cheap SEO packages aren’t likely to understand your target audience, as they allocate time to understand your customer base
- Buying a package that promises results that are instant. It’s likely that they’ll cut corners that could cause long term damge to your website.
When you’re looking at improving the SEO of your website you want a tailored package for you and your business to ensure you get the most out of it. You need something that is unique, thorough and has a clear goal at the end of it. Whilst it might take longer, you know that these results are designed to last and you’ll reap the benefits for years to come.
